Ihedioha did not win 2019 Imo Poll - Rochas Okorocha

News

The immediate past Governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha has said his successor, Emeka Ihedioha, did not win the election that brought him into office.

“Let me be clear, Emeka Ihedioha did not win elections in this state but was crookedly handed the mandate,” Okorocha said during a town hall meeting at his home town of Ogboko. Rochas is back in the state for the first time since being sworn in as senator representing Imo West.

Okorocha said Ihedioha did not fulfill the constitutional requirements of winning 25% of votes in two-thirds of the local government areas in the state which legitimizes the election of any Governor. “This is why he is going about running government in such a crookedly manner,“ he added.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party regarded Okorocha’s claims as “ludicrous and shameful ranting.”

“It is disgusting to note that the former Governor who mismanaged Imo people’s goodwill and left the state dilapidated and massively impoverished in all facets, still had the impudence to appear in public, believing that Imo people have short memory,” Imo State PDP spokesman Damian Oparah said in a statement.

“Okorocha must know that Imo people will no longer tolerate his nuisance,” Oparah added.

The former governor reinstated his belief in the justice system of the country to do right by the people of Imo State and return the stolen mandate to Henry Nwosu.
