The security details attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal have been restored.
Tambuwal's security details were withdrawn in October, after he decamped from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Spokesman for the Speaker, Malam Imam Imam, confirmed the restoration of the security details in a statement he issued on Wednesday.
Imam said that both the Police and State Security Service (SSS) details attached to the office of the Speaker were restored.
“We wish to confirm that all security details earlier withdrawn from the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, have been restored," Imam said.
“The Policemen attached to the Speaker resumed duties few days after men of the Department of State Security (DSS) returned to their duty posts."
He reiterated that it is compulsory for the state to provide special security for public office holders like Tambuwal.
Imam thanked Nigerians for joining their voices in condemning the illegal withdrawal of the Speakers security details. He said this also helped in hastening the reinstatement of the security details for Tambuwal.
However, Imam said no further comment would be made on the issue.
